Our Story
Welcome to BALLANCE Cancer Network, a platform founded in 2022 by three Early Career Researchers with a burning passion for research on Head and Neck Cancer. Grant, Niall, and Zainab realized that they were working on the same area but in isolation, which led them to establish this powerful network. In May 2022, the group received a grant from the charity 'Lets talk About Mouth Cancer'; and thus, the network was officially born.

“Our vision is to unite like-minded individuals from all around the world and provide them with the necessary opportunities for collaboration on research ideas and proposals. We aim to build research capacity, stimulate cross-learning, and establish research priorities in HNC, all while promoting researchers, clinicians, and students to get involved in Head and Neck Cancer.”

Our Members

Membership to BALLANCE Cancer Network is open to Early Career Researchers who are currently undertaking an MSc/PhD, conducting research, or within 10 years of their primary degree, and postdocs within five years of the award of their PhD. Clinicians carrying out research and considering transitioning to academia or clinical research are also eligible. Membership is free for ECRs, and we encourage interdisciplinary collaboration.

What we do

At BALLANCE Cancer Network, we are committed to supporting and developing the careers of Early Career Researchers in Head and Neck Cancer. We strive to provide a connected community where researchers can exchange information, seek mentorship, and collaborate. We organize annual online ECR conferences, webinars, presentations, and journal clubs, all aimed at fostering a collaborative research community that shares ideas and knowledge. We believe that our network's future activities should be informed by our members, and we aim
to support a research prioritization exercise in HNC to develop locally appropriate strategies that contribute to global research priorities.
